Electronic Woodworking

Rob-Portrait351Recently, the Woodworker’s Journal did some surveying among online woodworkers to find out what you all are up to. It was quite a long and wide-ranging survey, but some of the questions were about social media. I have to say that I just love woodworkers! Some of the responses were “Huh? What’s that?” Others were more enthusiastic and some, just confused: “I don’t like socialism!”

But one social media site got good reviews from this big bunch of woodworkers … Facebook. Even some folks who a few questions earlier said “I don’t know what social media is,” then responded that they had a Facebook page. (My dad would have likely answered that way. He always referred to the Internet as “the email.”)

So, with that information at hand, I thought that I would mention that Woodworker’s Journal has a Facebook page — and it is a great way to keep up with what we are doing and to see what other woodworkers are thinking — whether you like socialism or not!

Q & A

  • Wood Warpage

Like most garages in the summer, when everything is closed up, it gets quite hot in there. Could this be my problem?

  • Refacing Cabinets

The cabinets are in very good shape, we just don’t like the look. Is it a good idea to take on this or just replace the cabinets?

  • Dowels Shredding

My problem is, the dowels have to be very thin, 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch, and I can’t figure out how to consistently do this without shredding them. For a loveseat, it takes about 50-60 plugs. Any ideas?

Shops in All Weather, Scarf Joints and More

In response to Rob’s editorial last time out regarding his tactics for shop time in the heat of a Minnesota summer – and his method of cleaning out sawdust with a leaf blower – we heard from several readers who had their own tips for hot times in the shop, but little sympathy.
