A New Year of Woodworking

I am not a New Year’s resolution kinda guy. One advantage of reaching the august age of 50 years old is that I have become comfortable with my flaws and humble regarding my talents. (I apparently have avoided “fatal” flaws, as I assume I would be dead by now, and thus not have to deal with another eZine deadline.) So, I am not the sort of fellow to say “In 2006, I will eat better and exercise more.” I am more the sort of fellow who would think to himself “Dang … is it time to get up already? Perhaps I’ll hit the snooze”.

In any case, the ringing in of a new year is not a big event for me. But I do have to say that, completely coincidental to the advent of 2006, I have decided to increase my time in the shop. Whether it be more time turning, a growing interest of mine, or designing projects for the print magazine — something I want to do more of — or just messing around doing this or that, I will be making more sawdust in 2006 than in 2005. Rest assured that I will provide a progress report as time goes by.

But one thing that I do like to do at the turn of the year is acknowledge what a privilege it is to be a tiny part of your lives. The eZine and the Woodworker’s Journal would not exist without you all. And I know that I speak for all of us here at the Journal when I say thank you for your interest and patronage. Have a great and wonderful new year; may all the best come your way.
