The Winner Is?

It may be because we are blessed with an excellent public education system, or because we are cursed with exceptionally long and foul winters – but regardless of the cause – Minnesota is a publishing hotbed. Apparently, we create magazines up here with the same regularity and intensity that folks in the South fry food. Both are good endeavors (I do love me some deep-fried turkey), but lead to different traditions. Last week, the Minnesota Magazine and Publications Association (MMPA) had their annual awards banquet. We hold this event in November because it is still possible to travel to the big city from the hinterlands, before the snow entombs us for another winter of discontent and editing. So it is with some pride that I can announce that the Woodworker’s Journal won several awards this year. Our print magazine won the gold for Best Technical Article, Sandor Nagyszalanczy’s “Bargain Basement Power Tools.” We also received the silver for Best How-To Article, Digital Media (yup, that’s your eZine) and the Overall Excellence award.

In my callow youth, I might have been tempted to brag a bit about our awards, but with a bit of wisdom –gained with age — instead I would like to say thank you to all of our readers, both here on the eZine and the print magazine. Without you folks, we wouldn’t have a magazine or eZine or anything. We here at the Journal appreciate your support and the opportunity to serve. (I mean, think how bored we would be this winter without you!)
